By today's standards it's a little heavy, but feels nice and solid when shouldering. The 552 is Dovetailed for a scope and IMHO, would benefit greatly from some decent glass. However, I did put every round on the paper at 25 yards. Pretty good for a 60 year old rifle! I didn't test it for accuracy, between my bad eyes and small iron sights, there wasn't any chance of me hitting the 10-ring. Not a single stoppage, FTFeed, FTEject, or FTFire. It worked perfectly with modern Long-Rifle ammo. With my buddy in attendance, we took the old gun to the local range to test fire it. It does not have a serial number! Interesting. Based upon discussions with my friend, we estimated this rifle was purchased sometime in the '1950s, therefore, pre-dated GCA '1968 which required all firearms to have a serial number. I looked and looked, but for the world of me I couldn't find it! Based on my research, the Model 552 was made in the 'Standard' version from '1957 to '1988. When it arrived, I field-stripped the rifle (after finding a manual on the InterWeb) in preparation for cleaning and started looking for the serial number, so I could post it in my record book. 22 Long Rifle rounds! A very versatile rifle. The cool thing about the 552 is it will chamber and fire (20). I can only imagine the dozens of Rabbit and Squirrel this rifle has potted over the years. I would rate it a solid NRA 85% condition.

The bore is nice and shiny and the Rifling looks good and sharp.

The Walnut Stock and Forearm are in nice condition. The exterior bluing has worn through in a couple of places showing white. The rifle needed a little TLC and cleaning when it arrived. An exceptionally nice thing to have done. Anyone familiar with the Model 552? A friend of mine 'gifted' a 552 to me.
